NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME – NSS

The University supports the NSS and encourages all the youth to join the program. The vision of the scheme is to inculcate values of compassion and humanity and feelings for fellow persons.

The combined participation in community service leads to a sense of involvement in the task of nation building. The motto 'NOT ME, BUT YOU' underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.

The NSS attempts to develop in the young students a sense of social and civic responsibility and trains them to utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.

The HR-NSS unit has been trying through its various activities to do community service, bring about changes in the society, and help the volunteers build their personalities in the process.


ACTIVITIES 2024-2025

Beach Clean-Up at Bandra

May 18, 2024

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College participated in a beach cleanup at Chimbai Beach, Bandra, in collaboration with Project Mumbai as part of the “Swachhta Bharat Abhiyan.” The event ran from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM, with staff guiding six volunteers (all female) in collecting around 5 bags (10 kg) of waste, including plastic bottles and debris. This initiative highlights our commitment to environmental conservation and community service, encouraging everyone to contribute to a cleaner community.

Beach Clean-Up at Andheri

May 19, 2024

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College participated in a beach cleanup at Versova Beach, Andheri, alongside Mumbai Ploggers and Rustomjee for the “Swachhta Bharat Abhiyan.” Starting at 6:30 AM, volunteers received T-shirts and collected nearly 12 bags of waste by 9:30 AM. The event aimed to raise awareness about waste issues and environmental conservation, featuring attendees like Ms. Rashmi Singh, Mr. Sagar (Mr. Earth), and lifestyle blogger Vritti Khawani, who documented the initiative.

ACTIVITIES 2023-2024

BLOOD DONATION DRIVE

June 14, 2023         Attendees: 13         Venue: MMR Hall, KC College

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in Blood Donation Drive at the MMR Hall at KC College.

The donation drive started at 9 a.m. in the morning and the volunteers were guided about the activity by Mr. Satish Kolte. The donation drive was organized by the Somaiya Hospital, Chunabhatti. There were many volunteers from both HR & KC College. The volunteers worked hard in creating awareness and encouraging people to donate blood. College students, faculty and office staff and others from the locality donated blood. Total 51 units of blood were collected in the Blood Donation Drive.

9TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA CELEBRATION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics volunteered in the 9th International Day of Yoga celebration organized by HSNC University, Mumbai. Volunteers participated in the Pranayama Session conducted by the SYNC Club of H.R. College and practiced different yoga poses and breathing exercises. HR NSS also organized a Poster Making Competition to raise awareness about the importance of yoga.

KASARA TREE PLANTATION (BALAGRAM)

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in a Kasara Tree Plantation at Balagram organised by the HSNC University. Students reached Kasara station at 10 a.m. and then headed to Balagram.

The Head of Touch Foundation gave a brief introduction about the plantation activity. Volunteers planted around 200 tree saplings in Balagram with the help of the local villagers and the other volunteers from the HSNC University. This event helped raise awareness about the need for a green planet and how one can contribute towards sustainable living.

TREE PLANTATION (NAD COLONY)

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in Tree Plantation at NAD Colony, Mumbai. The Tree Plantation began with volunteers digging holes in the ground using the equipment that were provided to them. Mr. Sagar, an environmentalist, explained the process of planting saplings. With his guidance, the volunteers planted around 80 saplings carefully and gently. He discussed the importance of planting saplings, maintaining them and helping them grow. Through planting trees, the volunteers took a pledge to save the world from calamities in the future.

SWACHHTA SHAPAT

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics commenced the 15-day drive “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), with taking the oath of cleanliness.

Mr. Rahul Mishra, Programme Officer, began the event by talking about the importance of cleanliness on the environment and society as well as the purpose of Swachhta Pakhwada. Dr. Pooja Ramchandani, Principal - H.R. College, successfully took the oath along with the Mr. Rahul and the other volunteers. The volunteers were obliged through the pledge to make change as per the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. She encouraged the youth to take the initiative and make the world a better place for future generations.

WALKATHON

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics celebrated the second day of “Swachhta Pakhwada” with a great walk towards awareness about cleanliness in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The walk started from the HPCL Office at 10 a.m. with the volunteers and HPCL employees. They talked to people and made them aware towards cleanliness with beautiful slogans. Dr. Navin Punjabi, Vice Principal, along with Programme Officer Mr. Rahul Mishra, graced the event with their motivational words. The walk was undertaken to educate the youth about keeping the world clean.

CLOTH BAG MAKING

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics had a Seminar on Cloth Bag Making on the third day of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at HPCL Office.

Dr. Pratima Goyal, Head of the Textile and Fashion Technology at the College of Home Science, was the mentor for the Seminar. The seminar was offered in a hybrid mode i.e., participants also joined the seminar through online platform with the volunteers. Programme Officer Mr. Rahul Mishra and HPCL employees joined the volunteers offline. Dr. Pratima Goyal taught the students about how to save clothes that are out of fashion and to be environmentally friendly without leaving fashion behind. Students were also motivated by Jayant Gupta ED-IS and his inspiring words.

Students and HPCL employees made adorable cloth bags with their old clothes and learnt their uses and importance.

BEST OUT OF WASTE WORKSHOP

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Best out of Waste Workshop with the students at Jagannath Shankar Seth Municipal School as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The students were taught how to make eco-friendly rakhi from small household products like cardboard, thread, earbuds, etc. All the students created beautiful rakhi with different decorations. The volunteers tied rakhi to the students and impressed upon the importance of making the rakhi from eco-friendly products which would protect the environment.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics took a Session on Menstrual Hygiene to raise awareness as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The seminar was held at Master Sitaldas Punwani Tutorial High School with Dr. Monali Chopade, Assistant Medical Officer BMC. Dr. Chopade began by talking about the importance of menstrual hygiene. At the end of the session all the staff, doctors, volunteers, students and principal took the Swachhta Pledge both in English and Hindi.

BEACH CLEAN-UP (GIRGAON CHOWPATTY)

July 8, 2023         Attendees: 53

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics had organised a Beach Clean-Up as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at Girgaon Chowpatty with an aim to save marine life.

The HPCL employees told the volunteers about the importance of beach clean-up on the environment. They were also provided with t-shirts and tools for cleanup such as hand gloves, equipment, etc. The volunteers along with the HPCL employees collected a total of 150 bags of waste. Through this beach clean-up, the volunteers spread the message that beaches should be clean and not ruined for an hour pleasure.

DOOR-TO-DOOR PLASTIC COLLECTION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics had organised a Door-to-Door Plastic Collection as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The Door-to-Door Plastic Collection was conducted to educate the students regarding the importance of waste segregation and proper disposal of plastic waste. Students were instructed to collect plastic from 5th July, 2023 to 9th July, 2023 in their societies and buildings by going door-to-door and submit it at H.R. College for recycling. A total of 50 kilograms of plastic was collected. Those who collected the maximum amount of plastic were awarded at the HPCL Office on 10th July, 2023 post the E-Waste Seminar.

E-WASTE

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics conducted a Seminar on E-Waste as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at the HPCL office.

The seminar speaker Mr. Pravin Ruke, employee at HPCL, made volunteers aware of plastic waste and e-waste. Mr. Ruke mentioned how to determine reusable plastic and the degree of plastic by the various symbols on the object. He talked about how reduction of E-waste is possible through a reduction in the use of electric devices. E-waste should not be disposed in dustbins but used as a way of exchange for purchase of new device or appliance. He provided significant insights into lifestyle change and freedom from e-waste.

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Cloth Bag Making Session as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at H.R. College.

The Cloth Bag Making Session was conducted to educate the students on making cloth bags out of old cloth which could be handy for everyday use. The students made cloth bags as a way to reuse old cloth without leaving any scraps behind. The cloth bags were eco-friendly and easy to make because of the guidance of Dr. Pratima Goyal in a previous session on Cloth Bag Making held on 4th July, 2023 at the HPCL Office. The bags were then distributed to local vendors for the promotion of eco-friendly alternatives to plastic.

INTER COLLEGE POSTER & REEL MAKING COMPETITION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics had organised an Inter College Poster & Reel Making Competition as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The theme of the Poster & Reel Making Competition was “Swachhta” and the students were instructed to create eye catching posters and reels from 1st July, 2023 to 5th of July, 2023. The competition was conducted to raise awareness about cleanliness through beautiful creations of posters and reels. The price distribution of the Inter College Poster & Reel Making Competition took at HPCL Office on 11th July, 2023. The top 3 students who made the most creative and artistic reels and posters were given prizes by the Officials at HPCL.

PAPER BAG MAKING

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Paper Bag Making Session as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The Paper Bag Making Session was conducted to educate the students on making paper bags out of old newspapers which could be handy for everyday use. The students made paper bags as a way to reuse old newspaper without leaving any waste behind. These eco-friendly, easy to make paper bags which act as a great alternative for plastic bags made by the volunteers were to be donated to local vendors.

MONOLOGUE

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics has taken the initiative of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) during which they came up with a medium of creating awareness among people: Monologue.

The Monologue was illustrated by theatre actor Sabeena Sarwar, a BMM Student. The Monologue was conducted at HPCL Office to conduct awareness about behaviourial changes that can impact lives. Through her Monologue she depicted different characters and explained their importance in people’s lives, and how they contribute to making the nation clean.

FLASH MOB

July 13, 2023         Attendees: 48

The NSS Unit in collaboration with RCHR of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Flash Mob to raise awareness about protection of environment and cleanliness of society as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

The flash mob started at 4:00 p.m. at CSMT Station. NSS Volunteers as well as members of Rotaract Club of H.R. College presented a dance performance on various songs to raise awareness about “Swachhta”. The event was overall a huge success.

STREET PLAY (NUKKAD NATAK)

July 13, 2023         Attendees: 15

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Street Play (Nukkad Natak) as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) at Churchgate Station and CSMT Station. The street play focused on the themes of cleanliness, changing people’s mindset and protection of the environment. The volunteers through their acts created awareness in people to refrain from throwing litter, spitting, and trying to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene to save lives and boost the immune system.

STATION RALLY

July 13, 2023         Attendees: 40

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organised a Station Rally to raise awareness towards the cleanliness of railway stations as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The Station Rally was conducted to educate people to maintain cleanliness at the station as well as in the general vicinity. The rally commenced at 4:30 p.m. after Street Play (Nukkad Natak) and Flash Mob at the CSMT Station on Platform No. 16, with the slogan "Clean and Green India".

HYGIENE KITS DISTRIBUTION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics as a part of “Swachhta Pakhwada” in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has organized a drive of Hygiene Kits Distribution.

The volunteers commenced the session with an introduction to the idea of cleanliness. Ms. Mehak and Miss Shruti, officials at HPCL introduced the students to HPCL and Swachhta Pakhwada followed by the hygiene kits distribution by the NSS Volunteers. Distribution was conducted for the students of 6th, 7th and 8th standard girls. A total of 150 kits were distributed among the students.

BEACH CLEAN-UP

July 22, 2023         Attendees: 10

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics took a step towards maintaining coastal areas through beach clean-ups. A Beach Clean-up Drive was conducted at Girgaon Chowpatty along with the Change is Us team. Volunteers cleaned the beach during a high rain alert and yet collected a total of 64 bags of waste. Through this activity volunteers were made aware of the importance of cleanliness.

SAPHALE SAPLING PLANTATION

July 23, 2023         Attendees: 11

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics has taken the initiative to stop global warming and save rural life by planting saplings at Saphale. The sapling plantation drive was organized in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organization, which has started a "Prema Tharu", which means "Tree of Love”. The Plantation was done in inclement weather with Palghar being on red alert. A total of 200 saplings were planted through this activity.

PANEL DISCUSSION ON JOBS VS. STARTUPS

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in a panel discussion on Jobs Vs. Startups organized by Entrepreneurship & Incubation Cell and Placement Cell of H.R. College.

The Speakers for the session were Mr. Viraj Singhal - Founder of the Board at Industry Academic Partnership; and Mr. Divesh Bathjia - Co-founder of Unmath School Pvt. Ltd. The students were provided insights into corporate culture and corporate experiences. Both the speakers discussed the different kinds of risks and advantages related to startups. The session ended with an interactive Q&A and a formal vote of thanks.

PAPER BAG MAKING

July 31, 2023         Attendees: 6

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics conducted a paper bag making session on 29th July, 2023. The session was conducted to educate students on making paper bags out of old newspapers without leaving any waste behind. These eco-friendly paper bags are easy to make and serve as a great alternative to plastic bags. The students were instructed to make at least 5 paper bags and submit it in H.R. College on July 31, 2023. All the 30 paper bags made would be donated to local vendors for sale.

PROJECT KHUSHI

August 1, 2023         Attendees: 14

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics started its new project called "Project Khushi", which aims to spread happiness. The session commenced at Access Life, Bandra. Volunteers taught children how to make origami boats, butterflies among other creative things. The volunteers played games with the children spreading joy among them as they fought against cancer. The children also showcased their dancing skills. At the end of the session, the volunteers were gifted with greeting cards and paper flowers made by the children. The day ended in great joy.

ORGAN DONATION PLEDGE

August 3, 2023         Attendees: 36

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics celebrated the Indian Organ Donation Day as a part of “Angdaan Mahotsav”, an awareness campaign run by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation.

The Angdaan Pratigya/pledge was taken to spread awareness regarding organ donation and its importance. Mr. Rahul Mishra – Programme Officer, educated the students about how blood and organs cannot be manufactured but can only be provided by other human beings. Ms. Trisha Dutta, faculty, took the Organ Donation Pledge in English and Mr. Rahul Mishra took the same in Hindi along with the NSS Unit.

PROJECT PATHSHALA

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics started its new project called “Project Pathshala”, which aims to spread knowledge among the underprivileged children and help them acquire skills.

The NSS volunteers conducted a learning session at 1 p.m., at Jagannath Shankar Set Municipal School, Grant Road. A total of 35 students from 2nd, 3rd & 4th standard joined for the session. Children were taught some communication skills such as introducing themselves and how to greet someone in English. Students also mastered mathematical tables with some tricks and tips. The session was very successful and volunteers spread a lot of joy.

G20 YUVA SAMVADH INDIA@2047

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in the G20 Yuva Samvadh India@2047, organized by HSNC University, Mumbai, at Rama & Sundri Watumull Auditorium, K.C. College.

The event aimed to educate the youth about India's cultural heritage and celebrate its growth. The event commenced with Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani and Dr. Hemlata Bagala’s welcome address. The Chief Guest, Minister Chandrakant (Dada) Patil - Maharashtra's Minister of Higher and Technical Education, also motivated the youth and talked about Bharat@2047 initiative. Dr. Bhagwan Balani, Dr. Satish Kolte, Dr. Maya Shahani, Mr. Rahul Mishra and Mr. Manish Malkani, teachers and non-teaching staff attended the event. Dr. Sanjay Chakane educated the students about patents, Yuva portal registration & the MMMD and many other scientific discoveries. The event featured 30 participants, including 6 representing H.R. College, who delivered informative speeches on various topics related to India's cultural heritage and growth. The event concluded with a prize distribution and a formal vote of thanks.

Children were taught some communication skills such as introducing themselves and how to greet someone in English. Students also mastered mathematical tables with some tricks and tips. The session was very successful and volunteers spread a lot of joy.

MERI MATTI MERA DESH PLEDGE

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics conducted a pledge taking ceremony under the "Meri Matti Mera Desh" campaign, an initiative taken by the Government of India.

The Pledge was to:

- Make India developed and self-reliant by 2047.

- Remove any trace of colonial mindset.

- Celebrate India’s heritage.

- Strengthen unity and respect those who protect the country.

- Perform the duties of a citizen.

The purpose of this campaign is to honor the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. The students took the pledge online through the website as well as in offline mode in H.R. College including teachers and staff members under the guidance of Mr. Rahul Mishra. The pledge was taken in 4 classrooms in both English and Hindi. This event was aimed to create awareness in society about the great struggle for independence by freedom fighters.

TRAINING WORKSHOP ON HIV/AIDS 2023

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics attended the Training Workshop on HIV/AIDS 2023, organized by Red Ribbon Club at Wadala on International Youth Day.

The main purpose of the workshop was to educate the youth regarding safety during sexual intercourse by using protection and raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. The workshop commenced with the screening of an educational videos on HIV/AIDS and information available with the helpline number 1097. Dr. Sagar explained the difference between adolescent and youth along with the physical & psychological changes that happen in both males & females in those 2 stages. He informed students about RTI, STI and a person’s sexuality. Dr. Trupti informed the students about using condoms, taking vaccines like HPV, etc. and how various prescriptions like Pep and Prep work. The workshop ended with the host giving the students posters, keychains, wristbands, etc. to raise awareness in the college.

VEERO KO VANDAN

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics in collaboration with HSNC University organized a session under the “Meri Matti Mera Desh” campaign, an initiative taken by the Government of India to aware people of the history of the freedom fighters.

The Guest Speaker for the session was Mrs. Anuradha Gore author and mother of the Late Captain Vinayak Gore. Mrs. Gore talked about various parts of wars and struggles faced by different warriors. She told the story of the great queen near Uttarakhand, and the wars in Sindh. The session concluded with a vote of thanks and the volunteers taking the Meri Matti Mera Desh pledge.

77TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in the 77th Independence Day Celebration by HSNC University, Worli. The celebration was a part of “Meri Matti Mera Desh” Campaign, an initiative taken by the Government of India. The purpose of this campaign was to honour the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. The NSS volunteers took part in the Parade which was performed by them to honour the fallen heroes with determination and discipline. Celebrations included flag hoisting and the singing of the National Anthem followed by performances by students celebrating India’s culture and heritage.

HAR GHAR TIRANGA

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in the initiative of “Har Ghar Tiranga” as a part of “Meri Matti Mera Desh” Campaign, an initiative taken by the Government of India. The purpose of this campaign was to honour the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. The volunteers hoisted the national flag and took a picture with it. Certificates from the government were provided to the volunteers.

TREE PLANTATION (VAITARNA)

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organized a sapling plantation in Khardi Village, Vaitarna on the 77th Independence Day of India. The plantation was done as the part of ’Meri Matti Mera Desh’ campaign initiated by the government of India under Vasudha Vandan - creation of Amrit Vatika with indigenous trees. The volunteers planted around 75 saplings. This was conducted to educate the youth regarding the importance of trees on the environment. With this Plantation drive, volunteers aim to make a change in society and plant trees for a better future.

BEACH CLEAN-UP (DADAR BEACH)

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics along with the Mumbai organisation undertook Jalosh 17 an initiative of cleaning the beaches of Mumbai. The objective of conducting beach clean-up was to make people understand about the harmful impact of littering and to take efforts to make the sea & coast clean and beautiful. The cleanup started at 8 a.m. at Dadar Beach. Volunteers were provided with the necessary equipment for cleanup. A total of 9 bags of litter was collected by the volunteers. The Beach cleaning was completed at 9:30 a.m.

QUIZ COMPETITION

The NSS Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in National Students Paryavaran Competition (NSPC). The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has organized National students Paryavaran competition (NSPC) under the aegis of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi. The objective of this programme is to succeed in creating awareness amongst students to comprehend the looming dangers of uncontrolled climate devastation. Under the competition, there was a short quiz on renewal energy sources. The students received a certificate on the completion of the quiz.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

CYCLE RALLY

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics participated in a Cycle Rally organised by HSNC University, Mumbai on World Environment Day.

This Cycle Rally aimed to spread the message of cycle use as a non-polluting mode of transport with the added benefit of maintaining fitness, which is the need of the hour for today's youth. The participants covered a total distance of 10 kilometers starting from HSNC University, Worli to KC College, Churchgate.

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics with the collaboration of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited conducted a Seminar on ‘Preservation of the Environment.’

This seminar focussed on the need to preserve natural resources and the extent of nature-human interdependence. It brought to light how natural resources must be protected for the survival of life rather than merely seeing them as fodder for human consumption.

NSS RAKHI PROJECT

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics undertook a Rakhi Project and set up a Rakhi Stall in collaboration with the National Association for the Blind and the Indian Department of Women Empowerment.

CLOTH BAG MAKING WORKSHOP

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a cloth bag-making workshop with the motto of keeping the environment clean. Dr. Pratima Goyal, H.O.D. of Textile and Fashion Technology at College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan conducted the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to educate our volunteers on how they can use their old t-shirts to make a cloth bag, and say ‘no to plastic’ by replacing the highly destructive bags with environmentally friendly and reusable cloth bags.

SWACHHTA PLEDGE

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics in accordance with the ‘Swachhta Bharat Abhiyan’ conducted a ceremony for the volunteers to take the Swachhta Pledge. A huge number of volunteers took the pledge together.

The pledge helped the volunteers to have insights into the importance of Swachhta and helped them create an understanding of the ways to walk in the direction beneficial for the motherland. The pledge ended on an informative note creating awareness about the environment as a whole.

LIBRARY CLEAN-UP

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a library clean-up under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Volunteers cleaned the dust on the furniture and books with cloth rags. Books, journals and magazines were segregated and assembled according to the library systems management. The librarian and the library staff aided and encouraged the students in the clean-up. The aim of conducting the library clean-up was to promote cleanliness, order and respect for books.

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a beach clean-up drive at Girgaum Chowpatty beach in collaboration with Change In Us and Seafins.

The beach clean-up drive was conducted with the motto of keeping the water bodies clean and being responsible for the environment. The drive started with the volunteers collecting waste, including plastic and harmful materials from the beach. All the volunteers together successfully managed to clean five-plus tubs full of harmful waste resulting in pollution.

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a Blood Donation Camp at CSMT Railway Station. The volunteers were able to raise a hand toward saving the lives of several people. The team was successful enough in victoriously collecting 113 bottles of blood and 113 x 3 = 339 beneficiaries for needy patients.

The N.S.S. Unit started its new project “PROJECT SIKSHA” with the goal to enhance quality in education. The volunteers worked at West Khetwadi Upper Primary Marathi School, Khetwadi.

From teaching the students fundamentals of the English alphabet to testing them on the fundamentals of dictation tests, volunteers engaged them in interactive learning sessions. The project was a very successful one.

As this day is one of the three national holidays in India the speaker put many informative discussions and topics forward. The Government of Maharashtra initiated and organized this rally on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti under the theme of Nasha Mukta Boarat from Azad Maidan to Gateway of India.

RASHTRIYA SWACHH DIVAS

The N.S.S. Unit of H.R College of Commerce and Economics collaborated with the Plastoconomy Foundation on Rashtriya Swachh Divas. The activity aimed at donating free dustbins to residents who live in the slums of Mahalaxmi. The volunteers even educated them on Plastic Waste Segregation, Product Handling & Plastic Waste Upcycling. The volunteers were successful enough in distributing 30 pairs of dustbins.

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics conducted a Blood Donation Camp at Churchgate Railway Station. Through this camp the volunteers not only collected blood for hospitals but also got an opportunity to communicate and learn important skills such as co-ordinating and managing. The team was successful enough in collecting 70 bottles of blood and 70 x 3 =210 beneficiaries for needy patients.

WEBINAR ON ECOBRICKS

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics collaborated with AIESEC in South Mumbai. An online webinar on the topic ECOBRICKS: A step towards Waste Management was conducted on Zoom. Plastic pollution is any plastic that ends up in the environment - from bottles and bags to less obvious sources like teabags and clothes.

The speaker elaborated several other alternatives to plastic that can be used in order to reduce harm to the environment. The webinar was conducted with an aim to create awareness about the danger faced by the marine animals and the ways through which the younger generation can become more ecologically sensitive and contribute to a healthy environment.

ANIMAL WELFARE PROJECT

October 19 & 20, 2022         Volunteers: 10

The N.S.S. Unit collaborated with WSD (Welfare of Stray Dogs) under the aegis of a new project named Animal Welfare Project which aims at making society a better place for animals.

Volunteers went to WSD and spent time with the dogs they have in their organization. The project started with volunteers rinsing the dogs with clean water. The volunteers also took the dogs for a walk and fed them with some food. The project also taught them the ways in which these tiny gestures can create immediate and intense differences in the lives of these animals.

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce and Economics participated in a Blood Donation Camp in association with Abhyuday, IIT Bombay and L.T.M.G Hospital Blood Bank, Sion at Andheri Station. The volunteers started with approaching individuals to donate blood and were able to convince them. Volunteers contributed to the collection of life-saving blood.

DIWALI WEEK ACTIVITY 1 & 2

October 21-22, 2022         Attendees: 12

The N.S.S Unit organized ‘Diwali Week’ and started with ‘Feed the Poor’ campaign where they fed poor people in their neighborhood and uploaded pictures of the activity. The second activity was ‘Buy a gift’ (sweets, clothes, etc) for someone who serves (watchman, cleaner, etc).

Under this activity, the volunteers gave gifts to the people in their neighborhood and uploaded pictures of the same in the drive links provided to them. This activity made volunteers aware of the ways in which they can help brighten someone else’s lives and taught them to be grateful every single day.

SESSION ON CANCER AWARENESS

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics collaborated and participated in an informative session conducted by “ConnectFor” on Cancer Awareness with Access life NGO and help them create blogs, e-posters, and creative posts. The deliverables received will be used by the NGO in order to raise awareness of Cancer.

The speaker successfully elaborated and jotted down ways the youth can contribute to the aspect. The webinar helped volunteers to get an insight into Cancer and the ways through which the upcoming generation can work towards someone’s happiness. The session ended on an informative note.

Change Is Us is a youth-led community, working towards tackling marine & plastic pollution. All the volunteers together successfully managed to clean five-plus tubs full of harmful waste resulting in pollution.

ECOBITS ACTIVITY

November 13, 2022         Volunteers: 14

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted an activity called Ecobits. In this activity, the volunteers had to collect plastic waste for the first five days and on the 6th day, they needed to cut the plastic into pieces and put that waste into bottles. This activity was continued and conducted for the next fifteen days.

Each volunteer was expected to collect a minimum of 1.5 kg of dry plastic waste. The activity aimed at reducing plastic existing in the environment in order to get rid of its adverse effects.

WINTER DONATION DRIVE

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a Winter Donation Drive from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the premises of H.R College of Commerce & Economics.

The drive aimed at reducing the shortage of clothes amongst the underprivileged battling winter during these difficult times. The donation drive resulted in a number of clothes being donated not only by the volunteers but also by various students and teachers.

WEBINAR ON SAMBIDHAN DIWAS

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted an online webinar on Sambidhan Diwas. The Sambidhan Diwas (Constitution Day) is celebrated every year in order to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and to honour and acknowledge the contribution of the Founding Fathers of the Constitution.

The webinar helped volunteers to get some insightful information about the drafting of the Constitution. It also gave rise to some meaningful discussions on the applicability and the role of the constitution in the growth of our nation. The webinar ended on an enthusiastic yet informative note.

MARTYRS DAY

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics organized a Video Making Competition on Martyrs Day. The volunteers were supposed to pick a Martyr of their choice and were expected to make a video of him or her. The purpose of this activity was to create awareness and patriotism amongst the volunteers. This was a reminder to be grateful for our freedom fighters, their struggles, and their efforts as a result of a great nation.

AIDS DAY ACTIVITY

December 1, 2022

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics organized three activities as a part of Aids Day. The theme for World Aids Day this year was “Rock the Ribbon”.

The first activity consisted of Poster Making Competition in which the volunteers were required to curate creative posters using their own skills and efforts in order to create awareness about the day.

The second activity expected the volunteers to make promotional videos as a competition. The volunteers were successful enough in completing the activity. This helped and made the volunteers informed about the importance of this particular day.

The third and last activity consisted of volunteers completing a quiz requiring them to answer specific questions related to aids.

ARTSHAALA

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College Commerce & Economics as part of Project Shiksha organized another “Artshaala” event in collaboration with ConnectFor wherein the volunteers sketched and painted corridors and classrooms of a government-run school that caters to children from underprivileged communities in the city.

The goal of this event was to increase the aesthetic beauty of the school and create a conducive environment for the school children. The event concluded with volunteers successfully painting informative as well as creative pictures on the school’s wall.

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics in collaboration with the Students Council and sponsored by HDFC bank conducted a Blood Donation Drive.

The volunteers were able to raise a hand toward saving the lives of several people. The camp not only helped contribute towards the society but also gave the volunteers an opportunity to communicate and taught them skills such as co-ordinating between members and managing. Volunteers were able to contribute and impact the severe shortage of blood. The camp contributed to bridging the gap by doing the needful.

Activity 1: Swachhata Abhiyan Activity

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted Swachhata Abhiyan at Gorhe, Palghar in order to promote cleanliness and reduce the amount of waste in the village premises.

The Swachhata Abhiyan started with volunteers collecting harmful waste from the roads and frequently used pathways. It resulted in several dustbins full of waste being collected by the volunteers. This activity helped the volunteers to learn more about the importance of waste segregation and disposal.

Activity 2: Door-To-Door Blood Donation Awareness

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted door-to-door blood donation awareness at Gorhe, Palghar in order to reduce the severe shortage of blood in the country. The volunteers informed the villagers about the requirements before donating blood and clarified doubts regarding donation.

Activity 3: Team Bonding and Self-Reflection Session

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics organized a team bonding and self-reflection session. The awareness session was conducted by Mr. Sagar Singh Sir, is an environmentalist and Co-Founder of Ecowarriors India. The session started with Mr. Sagar providing a brief introduction about self-reflection. The volunteers were shown some videos in order to give them insights into the way in which earth works and has an impact on our lives.

Activity 4: Door-To-Door Awareness of Dry and Wet Waste

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted door-to-door dry and wet waste segregation awareness at Gorhe, Palghar to reduce environmental harm.

The awareness started with volunteers approaching the villagers and informing them about the disadvantages to the environment due to improper disposal of waste. The volunteers created awareness on waste segregation into dry and wet waste through demonstration.

Activity 1: Nature Immersion Program

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics organized a nature immersion program with an aim to signify the value of being self-aware and to keep the volunteers informed about the skills required to work well in a team.

The awareness session was conducted by Mr. Sagar. Singh. Sir, is an Environmentalist and Co-Founder of Ecowarriors India. Sir is also an environment enthusiast and inspires and conducts sessions on the preservation of the environment. The session started with Mr. Sagar giving everyone a brief introduction about self-reflection and the ways in which it can be done. The volunteers were asked to perform certain activities during the session such as standing and noticing their breadth and the surroundings. The session ended on a positive and informative note.

Activity 2: Introduction to the World in a Nutshell

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics organized a session for the students of Zilla Parishad School, Gorhe.

The session was conducted by Mr. Sagar. Singh. Sir, is an Environmentalist and Co-Founder of Ecowarriors India. Sir is also an environment enthusiast and inspires and conducts sessions on the preservation of the environment. It started with Mr. Sagar introducing the students to Indian history and geography. Sir recited the stories that led to the naming of Indian states. The session also gave the students a deeper understanding of the continents on the world map. The students were given a map of India in order to mark the Indian states on the same. The session ended on an informative and positive note.

Activity 3: Stationary Distribution

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted a stationary distribution drive for the students of Zilla Parishad School.

The activity started with volunteers visiting every class in the school and distributing stationery among the students. The activity helped the volunteers understand and experience essential stationery scarcity. The stationary distributed included crayons, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, scales, etc. It also taught the volunteers to be grateful at every point of their lives and have the ability to give more. The activity ended with a beautiful smile on the faces of the students at school. It ended on a positive note.

Activity 4: Teaching Students - Grammar

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted a teaching session for the students of the school at Gorhe, Palghar.

The volunteers taught the kids some basics of grammar in order to improve their writing as well as speaking skills. It helped the students to improve their understanding of grammatical errors and the way in which they can enhance their knowledge of grammar by practicing some simple essays and poems. The teaching session with the students ended on an informative yet positive note.

Day 3: January 24, 2023

Activity 1: Bandhara Making

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted Bandhara making activity. The activity aimed towards lending a helping hand to the villagers in the construction of the dam. The volunteers were asked to collect mud, fill up the bags with the collected amount of mud, and then place the bags, etc in a way helpful in the construction of the dam. The activity taught the volunteers teamwork and the importance of discipline. The activity ended on an enthusiastic yet positive note.

Activity 2: Labour Activity at School

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics performed several labour activities in order to help the students at Zilla Parishad School, Gorhe. The activities started with placing the stones at appropriate places, helping them collect mud, etc. The volunteers cooperated with the authorities at school and performed the activities instructed to them thoroughly.

The volunteers got to learn about the ways in which every student should be responsible for the cleanliness and development of their own institutes and the importance of discipline, and teamwork to perform such activities. The activity ended on an enthusiastic yet positive note.

Activity 3: Zumba Session

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted a Zumba session at the premises of Zilla Parishad School for the students. The activity aimed towards making the children aware of Zumba and its advantages and in order to help them know the ways in which it can be performed. The session started with volunteers teaching the students some basic steps one by one.

Then the students were asked to perform the steps taught altogether resulting in a whole new performance. The session helped the students have fun along with some basic exercises to help them stay fit. The session ended on a thrilling and enthusiastic note.

Activity 4: Yoga Session

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted a Yoga session on the premises of Zilla Parishad School for the students. The activity aimed at making the students aware of the importance of yoga and teaching them the way in which several yoga poses should be performed. The session started with volunteers instructing the students to stretch a little bit before doing the poses.

Then the volunteers started with the yoga poses and the students were asked to follow the same. The session helped the students learn some basic yoga poses and the benefits we get from them. The session ended on an enthusiastic and informative note.

Activity 5: Mathematical Tricks

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce & Economics conducted a session on Math for the students of the school at Gorhe, Palghar. The session started with volunteers making the kids aware of the basics of mathematics and then moving ahead with some simple tricks that they can use to solve mathematical problems easily and quickly. This gave the students an opportunity to learn something new and opened the doors to go in-depth with these tricks and explore them. The session ended on an informative note.

ARTSHAALA

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College Commerce & Economics as part of Project Shiksha conducted another “Artshaala” event at Vinay High School, Chembur in collaboration with ConnectFor. Volunteers sketched and painted corridors and classrooms of a government-run school that caters to children from underprivileged communities in the city.

The goal of this event was to increase the beauty of the school and create a conducive environment for the school children. The event concluded with volunteers successfully painting informative as well as creative pictures on the school wall.

STATIONARY DONATION DRIVE

The N.S.S unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics organized books and stationary donation drive which were to be distributed to the village children at Gorhe, Palghar.

Donations that were collected from the staff and students of the college were segregated into different categories and distributed at the village. The N.S.S Unit thanked each and every one who participated in the drive for their generous contribution.

PROJECT KHUSHI

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics visited ‘Access Life Bandra Centre’ on the occasion of World Cancer Day as part of an ongoing project i.e., ‘Project Khushi’. The centre provides multi-disciplinary supportive care for families who come to various hospitals for their child’s cancer treatment. It provides a loving and temporary home for children undergoing treatment for cancer along with their parents or caretakers. The activity started with volunteers greeting all the kids at the centre and a round of mutual introductions followed by various fun games and activities that the volunteers planned for the kids and their parents. The activities included passing the object, drawing on the board, dancing, singing, etc. Volunteers spend some quality time with the kids at the center and contributed to their sense of well being.

BLANKET DISTRIBUTION DRIVE

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a Blanket Distribution drive at Gully Classes, Ghatkopar. The activity started with volunteers introducing themselves to the kids and playing a few games with them. This was followed by volunteers distributing blankets among the kids.

The activity helped in bringing smiles to the faces of the kids. It also made the volunteers aware of the importance of taking small helpful steps which can have a huge impact on someone else’s life.

ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics organized a webinar on ‘Organ Donation Awareness’ by Apte Kaka alias Mr. Shrikant Murlidhar Apte - Founder of ‘V4Organs Foundation’.

The session began with the introduction of the speaker for the day. This was followed by the speaker giving a brief introduction on ‘Organ Donation’ which helped the students gain insights on the same. A quiz on organ donation conducted by the unit required the volunteers to answer some questions related to organ donation. The activity ended on an enthusiastic and positive note.

ANIMAL FEEDING DRIVE

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics in collaboration with Competitive Examination Guidance Cell, Monetre, and Special Cell organized an animal feeding drive. Volunteers provided food and care to stray animals and pets as part of this charitable initiative. Participants were asked to feed 5 dogs/cats and share geo-tagged pictures of their act. This activity promoted awareness about respecting and supporting all living beings on our planet.

Angel Xpress is a non-profit organization that focuses on connecting underprivileged children with empathetic educated adults in the community. The activity started with volunteers introducing themselves to the children at the organization. This was followed by several games and activities that the volunteers planned for the kids.

The activities helped in bridging the gap between the volunteers and the kids. It resulted in beautiful smiles on the faces of the children at the organization. The activity ended on an enthusiastic note.

The event started with volunteers introducing themselves to the kids followed by a number of fun activities with an aim to spread smiles and spending quality time with them.

After conducting fun activities and games, clothes were distributed amongst the kids which were collected during the donation drive. The activity resulted in a positive environment and helped the kids engage enthusiastically with the volunteers.

COUNSELLING SESSION

The session started with thanking the whole team of Advoiz for collaborating and taking a step towards a better healthy lifestyle. The guest speakers for the session were consultants Ms. Aastha Kamra and Ms. Ifsha Qureshi.

The speakers elaborated on the need for balance between our mental as well as physical health. The speakers also communicated with the students about the issues they face in their everyday lives and the ways to overcome the same. The counseling session ended on a positive note.

PRANAYAM: SECRET OF LIFE

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics in collaboration with SYNC organized Pranayama: Secret of Life; workshop that guided volunteers regarding breathing activity and its benefits.

The workshop started with the host introducing the instructor to the volunteers present. The introduction of the instructor was followed by practicing some basic breathing exercises and several other exercises benefiting our entire body resulting in a calm and peaceful mind. SEMINAR - ROAD SAFETY

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics conducted a seminar on Road Safety organized by the United Way. The seminar began with the speaker introducing the basic rules and regulations on the topic.

Interactive videos and pictures were presented by the speakers which helped in a deeper understanding of the topic. The speakers also stated a few facts in order to give students a reality check to help them understand the number of accidents happening in the country and the reasons for the same. The session ended with volunteers answering a few questions on the topic of Road Safety provided on a google form by the speakers.

The activity was organized with the aim to create awareness about the rules and regulations for road safety and the measures to be taken to avoid accidents. The volunteers were asked to go to the major signals as well as traffic hubs within their area and take geo-tagged images of themselves holding placards and upload the images on the link provided to them. In this enlightening endeavor, volunteers helped spread awareness amongst the masses for the need for road safety.

It can’t just be through monetary means but, can also be through spending some time with them. Refreshments were distributed after a few exciting activities.

NEIGHBOURHOOD DISTRICT YOUTH PARLIAMENT

The final round for the event was conducted on March 13, 2023 at Rama and Sundari Watumull Auditorium, K.C. College. The program was conducted as a part of the G20 Y20 celebration.

ROLE OF N.S.S IN NATION’S DEVELOPMENT

The N.S.S Unit of H.R. College of Commerce & Economics organized a session on the topic ‘Role of N.S.S in Nation’s Development’ in order to make aware the volunteers of the various aspects of the National Service Scheme and the development that has taken place over the years.

The guest speaker for the session was the Honorable Director of N.S.S Dr. Satish Kolte. Mr. Kolte worked as N.S.S Programme Officer for 17 years & as District Coordinator of the University of Mumbai for 14 years. He has supervised numerous social activities under N.S.S for rural & urban development programmes since the year 2004.

The session started with the speaker’s talk on the role of NSS in national development and put forth several stories on how N.S.S had changed the lives of individuals and the steps to be taken to continue the good work. The session ended with a formal vote of thanks.

AIDS AWARENESS

FLOOD DONATION DRIVE
July 30 - August 5, 2021

The N.S.S conducted a week-long flood donation drive on the college campus. As per the instructions of the Director of NSS of the HSNC University, the drive was undertaken to help the flood-ravaged victims of Chiplun and Mahad. The donation was conducted to collect essential items such as food grains, eatables, sanitary napkins, toiletries, and stationery to help the victims of Chiplun and Mahad. The response was commendable and we received great support from the teaching and non-teaching faculty, students, and the public at large. All donated items were packed on August 6 with utmost care and precaution by the NSS volunteers and dispatched on August 7 to the affected villages.

As a part of Swachhta Pakhwada, the NSS volunteers were asked to pick up the garbage and clean their locality. Everyone needs to learn about cleanliness, hygiene, sanitation, and various diseases that are caused due to poor hygienic conditions.

3. PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT

Beach Clean-Up is an essential activity as cleaning the beaches helps in improving the ocean and coastal ecosystem. Mr. Ajay Rajput the secretary of Green Resonance Foundation explained the importance of plastic waste management and how we could do our bit to keep our planet clean.

ECO BRICK ACTIVITY

NSS Unit conducted a Winter Distribution Drive and distributed winter wear, blankets, and clothes donated by our classmates, teachers, and others. The clothes were distributed to the needy in the slums of Mumbai Central and Grant Road. All covid protocols were followed and only Fully Vaccinated volunteers were called for the drive.

ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK

There were seven events during the drive:

1. POSTER MAKING
January 13, 2022 Attendance - 40

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College conducted a Poster making the event as a part of Road Safety Week where Students made creative posters related to Road safety using the theme “Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow.”

2. SLOGAN WRITING
January 15, 2022 Attendance - 27

The second activity conducted as a part of the awareness week was Slogan Writing. The volunteers were asked to write at least one slogan. The results were outstanding.

3. ESSAY WRITING

As a part of Road Safety Awareness Week, an Essay Writing Competition was conducted. It was an opportunity for our volunteers with spectacular writing skills to pen down their thoughts on the given topic of Road Safety.

4. BADGE MAKING

For a Badge Making Competition, the volunteers were asked to make at least one badge based on the theme of Road Safety. The volunteers were very creative and artistic.

5. WEBINAR ON ROAD SAFETY AWARENESS

An online Education on Road Safety Program in collaboration with United Way Mumbai was conducted by Mr. Karan Desai. The webinar aimed to educate and sensitize youth to become safer and responsible two-wheeler riders. The speaker explained to us the rules and regulations of road safety as a driver.

6. TRAINING IN ROAD SAFETY

An Online Education on Road Safety Program was conducted in collaboration with United Way Mumbai with Mr. Rohit Dalvi. The speaker trained and explained to us the rules and regulations, how to buy a helmet, what are the conditions to buy a helmet, ABS (Anti-Lock System), the three-second rule, told us when to use the choke, then he took a small quiz on the blind spot, talked about the reserve and the gear and so on. This detailed webinar has given us a lot of knowledge and made us more cautious.

7. ROAD SYMBOLS

The last activity conducted as a part of Road Safety Awareness Week was for students to make a video explaining the different Road Symbols. The students explained all the symbols in a detailed manner.

SURYA NAMASKAR

An online event for students to do Surya Namaskar and upload their video on Google Documents was conducted. Surya Namaskar improves complexion, helps in weight loss, ensures an improved function of the digestive system, etc.

2 WHEELER ACTIVITY

In this activity, the volunteers were asked to educate and aware people of various parts of the two-wheeler so that they can enjoy a safe ride. This initiative was taken during the Road Safety Week to improve safety and reduce crash casualties.

WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION

The N.S.S. unit celebrated Women's day in All Saints Old Age Home. The volunteers played several games with the Women in All saints Home like Housie, Guess the Actress, and Dumb Charades. Arranged hot meals for them. At the end of the celebration, we bestowed small hampers upon these Women and wished them a very Happy Women's day.

BEACH CLEAN UP

The N.S.S. unit of H.R College of Commerce and Economics organized a Beach Clean-Up drive in collaboration with "SeaFins" at Girgaum Chowpatty.

Beach Clean-Up is an essential activity as it helps in improving the ocean and coastal ecosystem. With the help of the beach clean-up drive, volunteers were able to understand the importance of clean beached for humans and the environment.

BLOOD DONATION
March 15, 2022 Attendance - 19

The N.S.S Unit of H.R College of Commerce and Economics conducted a blood donation drive at Dadar Station.

This was in collaboration with Blood Donation is extremely important as each bottle of blood collected helps in saving up to 3 lives. The volunteers worked with dedication and discipline throughout the day. This drive was successful as 130 units of blood were collected. This will further help in saving the lives of 390 people.

BOOK DONATION DRIVE
March 21 - 24, 2022 Attendance - 20

The NSS Unit of H.R. College conducted a book and stationery drive on the college premises. Volunteers, teachers, and staff were asked to donate the books and stationery. All the books, stationery, and pens were given to the students and children in our adopted village, Gorhe, Palghar.

The N.S.S Unit conducted a webinar on Waste Management. The speaker for the webinar was Ms. Rachana Kulkarni. She explained the importance of waste segregation and how one can make sure to dump waste properly within their households.

BEACH CLEAN UP

N.S.S. unit conducted a beach clean-up in collaboration with Carter clean-up and auto hangar Mercedes-Benz at Carter Road, Bandra. The volunteers were made to pick up waste from the beach and segregate it into Dry and Wet waste.

The dry waste was sent for recycling and the wet waste was sent to the BMC landfill. The main purpose of this activity was to create awareness about plastic pollution and reduce the use of single plastic.

The NSS Unit conducted a small activity in which students had to make digital posters regarding the topic of Yoga on International Yoga Day to spread awareness relating to it.

The NSS Unit conducted a slogan-making activity for International Yoga Day 2022 to get a better understanding of its benefits.

The NSS Unit conducted a quiz regarding Yoga on International Day of Yoga 2022 to help spread awareness about Yoga.

4. ASANA POSES AND THEIR BENEFITS

The NSS Unit conducted a workshop on Asana poses as the fourth activity in the series of events for the International Day of Yoga 2022. It helped spread awareness about how Asana can benefit us and in general benefits accruing with the practice of yoga.

The N.S.S unit of H.R. College conducted a rally to save Mother Nature as well as a Beach clean-up in collaboration with AISEC, Seafins & Change for Us.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT
April 25 & 26, 2022 Attendance - 40

N.S.S Unit organized a seminar on Disaster Management at H.R College. The first session was conducted by Mr. Rajendra Ramchandra, the shift in charge of the Disaster Management department of MCGM.

The students were given Fire Safety Training in the second session taken by Mr. M.R. Surve, Senior Station officer, Byculla Fire Brigade.

Mr. Pravin Shankar Brahmdande, who is in charge of the all-over Mumbai disaster training, took the third practical training on disaster management. He provided the students with hands-on training on how to manage casualties during a disaster.

Mr. Mahendra Khambalekar, the Disaster Management department of MCGM, took the fourth session; he has 6 years of experience in Disaster Management. He trained the students on First Aid.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED DURING THE NSS CAMP AT GORHE VILLAGE 2021-2022
March 25-31, 2022 Attendance - 45
1. SWACHH BHARAT DRIVE

Collection of dry waste around the village to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. This activity was to create awareness amongst the villagers to not litter. They were also taught the segregation of wet and dry waste.

2. DOOR-TO-DOOR AWARENESS

The volunteers were asked to go Door to Door across the village and inform the villagers to avail themselves of the medical camp set up by the NSS Unit.

3. STATIONERY KIT DISTRIBUTION

A stationery kit distribution drive at the Gorhe School and Mankuli School in Gorhe, Palghar was conducted where all students were given a stationery kit for their use.

4. MEDICAL CAMP

NSS Unit of H.R. College conducted a medical camp in Gorhe, Palghar. The villager had a free check-up from Doctors from Mumbai. There was a general check-up and an eye check-up as well.

5. YOGA AT GORHE SCHOOL

The NSS Unit volunteers taught students various types of asanas. The benefits and the importance of Yoga were explained.

6. LIBRARY SETUP

NSS Unit set up a library in Gorhe School. Various types of books were donated to the school. These books ranged from Story Books to Textbooks.

7. BLOOD DONATION

The volunteers were asked to go door to door across the village and inform the people about the Blood Donation camp set up by the NSS Unit. The volunteers urged the villagers to donate blood and put up flyers throughout the village. Since there is a shortage of blood, this was an important activity to create awareness about the importance of blood donation.

The blood collected is kept in the village itself and will be used in case of an emergency.

8. PT AND ZUMBA AT GORHE

NSS Unit of HR College conducted PT and Zumba activities at the Gorhe School to focus on the importance of being active and leading a healthy lifestyle.

Yoga at Mankuli School

NSS Unit volunteers conducted Yoga Day at Mankuli School. The students were taught various types of asanas and the benefits explained.

9. ROAD MAKING

N.S.S. unit conducted road making in Gorhe, Palghar. The volunteers helped the villagers in making roads. This will help in the development of the village infrastructure.

10. WALL PAINTING

NSS Unit of HR College conducted Wall Painting in front of the Gorhe School.

The volunteers painted the message "Save water" and "Dry and wet waste segregation". This message will help the village to progress.
