The Nature Club – NCHR

Nature Club has been set up with the following objectives:

  • Develop awareness of and encourage an interest in the natural environment among its students through meetings, talks, workshops, study groups, and field trips.
  • Promote stewardship of nature and develop the attitude of conservation among the student members.
  • Co-operate and collaborate with focus groups to enable the protection and saving of natural resources which we sustain.
  • Develop opportunities to learn and become better green leaders of tomorrow.

PLANT FOR A PLANET

June 19 -21, 2024         ATTENDEES: 10

The Nature Club of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics organized a sapling plantation event organized on the occasion of Mr. Chandrakant Patil's birthday (Minister of Higher and Technical Education of Maharashtra), honouring his dedication to environmental causes. 10-12 kinds of saplings like Sita Ashok, Jamun, Bahava, Kadam, etc. of Indian origin were planted in the college premises by The Principal, Vice-Principals and staff.

The purpose of tree plantation is to save the endangered environment and beautification of our surroundings. Additionally, saplings were distributed to students, encouraging them to take an active role in nurturing and protecting the environment. A spirit of teamwork, exchange of ideas and enthusiasm of the participants especially among the students could be seen.

NATURE NEXSUS : VAN MAHOTSAV

The Nature Club of H.R.College of Commerce and Economics organized a Van Mahotsav week. We visited the Maharashtra Nature Park in Sion. Van Mahotsav, also known as the Festival of Trees, is an annual tree-planting festival celebrated in India. The guide took us through the different species of flora and fauna in the park and explained in detail their importance in the environment. It successfully highlighted the critical role of trees in our ecosystem and the urgent need for afforestation.

Zero Plastic Sunday

The Nature Club of H.R.College of Commerce and Economics organized a beach clean up drive. We visited the Girgaon Chowpatty. The drive was conducted in collaboration with Change Is Us organisation. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans, harming marine life and polluting our beautiful beaches. Change Is Us organizes beach cleanup drives every Sunday. Their volunteers explained everything about beach marine life and different types of waste. Medical assistance was available if required at any time. Volunteers were provided with gloves while they had to bring their own masks and sanitizers. At the end of the clean-up drive, Change Is Us provided all the participants with E-certificates.

Garbett Plateau - Trek

The Nature Club of H.R.College of Commerce and Economics organized an adventurous trek at Garbett Plateau. We enjoyed breakfast on the bus before embarking on our trek at 11 am. After a few hours of hiking, we reached the summit at 2 pm and took in the breathtaking views. The scenery was incredibly picturesque, and we couldn't resist capturing the moment with photos. We proudly brought along an Indian flag and took pictures with it at the top. The rain added to the pleasant weather, making the experience even more enjoyable. As we began our descent at 3 pm, fellow trekkers kindly assisted us along the way. After working up an appetite, we savored a delicious meal at 7 pm before heading back.

Heritage Walk

The Nature Club of H.R. College organized a successful Heritage Walk on 28th August 2024, with 35 enthusiastic participants exploring Mumbai's iconic landmarks. The walk began at Oval Maidan, showcasing its colonial architecture, and continued to the University of Mumbai, where attendees admired the Rajabai Clock Tower. Guided by Chandni ma’am, participants learned engaging historical insights as they visited Kala Ghoda and concluded at the Gateway of India. The event was both educational and inspiring, deepening the participants' connection to the city's rich heritage and leaving them with a renewed pride in Mumbai's cultural roots.

Beach Clean Up

September 14, 2024

The MCom Committee and The Nature’s Club organized a Post-Ganpati Visarjan beach cleanup at Prabhadevi Beach, attracting 35 enthusiastic volunteers. Gathering at Kirti College by 11:30 AM, participants received a briefing on safety and hygiene, along with gloves and masks. They then set to work, collecting remnants of Ganesh idols and other litter scattered along the beach. The teamwork and dedication showcased by the volunteers transformed the beach from littered to pristine, highlighting the impact of collective effort. The event concluded with a group photo, celebrating not only the environmental contribution but also the sense of community and responsibility fostered among participants.

Diya Painting

September 21, 2024

The Nature Club organized a vibrant Diya Painting event in Vikhroli, Mumbai, attracting 8 enthusiastic participants. Running from 10 AM to 12 PM, the event aimed to celebrate the festive season while raising funds for *Connect For*, an NGO that offers pre-vocational training to adolescents. Participants of all ages explored their creativity, painting Diyas with a variety of designs, from traditional patterns to contemporary styles. Laughter and chatter filled the air as attendees bonded over their artwork, supported by volunteers who ensured a fun experience for everyone. By the end of the session, participants left with beautifully decorated Diyas and a sense of fulfillment from contributing to a charitable cause, making the event a joyful celebration of community spirit and creativity.

BYCULLA ZOO ORGANISED BY THE NATURE CLUB

On 17th November 2024, The Nature Club hosted an exciting trip to Byculla Zoo, Mumbai, bringing together a group of nature enthusiasts for a day filled with exploration, learning, and fun. The event provided attendees an opportunity to connect with wildlife, bond with one another, and create lasting memories.

The event concluded at 2:00 PM, leaving participants with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for the animal kingdom. The Byculla Zoo visit was not only an enriching experience but also a wonderful chance for everyone to come together, connect with nature, and enjoy a refreshing break from routine.

INTERCOLLEGIATE FEST

The Nature Club went on an interesting event organized by ST. TERESA’S INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION. It was an intercollegiate event which gave the students an opportunity to get to know other students from different colleges, connect on the topic of nature and it’s issues and get some great memorable experiences.

Our team of HR COLLEGE OF COMMERCE AND ECONOMICS took part in many events like Quotabulary, Capture Nature, Chart Making, and Green Tedtalk.

We started the day at 10:30 and firstly went for the Capture Nature event. Our participant presented his documentary on the beauty of Mumbai and its heritage places. Then we went for Chart Making in which we worked on “Doddle Art” and the topic for this was “Tree Conservation”. After this we went for Green Tedtalk in which we all spoke for 10 minutes on the topic “End Coastal Commotion and Save the Ocean” and in the end we went for Quotabulary in which we made many quotes on the topic “Beat the Heat”.

The event was completed till 2 pm and all of us got our participation certificate. It was an incredible experience, and we had a lot of fun. The students were proud to be a part of this team and grateful for the opportunity to represent our college.

ARTSHALA 3.0

The Nature Club of HR College (NCHR) was delighted to take part in the Artshala event, held at Haji Ismail Haji Alana Municipal School, Wadala. This event focused on enhancing the school’s environment with vibrant artwork and creative expressions, aiming to inspire a more engaging and cheerful space for students to learn and grow.

NCHR volunteers came together to transform the school premises with their artistic skills and creativity. The collaborative efforts not only brought life to the walls but also fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose among participants.

Discussions with the school staff highlighted the positive impact of such activities in creating an inviting and inspiring educational setting. NCHR is honored to have contributed to this initiative and remains committed to driving projects that enrich community spaces and support holistic development.
